Useful or Beautiful

It's a little early for spring cleaning but I'm clearly in the mode~~
the house and garden are calling for a re-do.
We've spent a month entertaining wonderful northern guests
while clutter gathered and everyday tasks were left ignored~~
we were having too much fun to do anything but cook, wash dishes, or do laundry.

We did lots of take-out during the holidays.

Simplify
My word for 2014~~
as if that isn't always my word!

I'm busy simplifying:
Stashing holiday d├ęcor.
Picking up lemons under the lemon tree.
Pulling dead fronds from the palms.
Watering plants.
Recycling paper, metal, and plastics.
Vacuuming neighbors' leaves from our lawn.
Re-working the linen closet.
Whittling refrigerator contents.
Mailing found items back to departed guests.
Shredding documents.
Delivering donations to the church pantry, used clothing, and shoe drop box.
Rounding up items for a garage sale.
Paring down.
 Keeping this advice in mind:

Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.

Becky I really need to work on simplifying in 2014. That's one of my goals. And those pastries look amazing!!

You sound very busy. I need to be simplifying here but it seems overwhelming at times.

Doing a little of that, but at least, I'm making a list.

Yes, it is time to clean up. Around here, it is always time to clean up: we are very good at collecting clutter!
Blessings!

Oooh...you're speaking my language. I have no trouble whatsoever making yearly purges in the cupboards and around the house, in fact, it energizes me. I do, however, have difficulty simplifying my diet. Those pastries at the top of your post are singing to me.

You have lots of goodies here, but since I come from where I do there is now doubt about my favourite: "Skillingsbollen" in the upper right-hand corner!

I'm with Susan. I get overwhelmed with the tasks at hand, simplification-wise. Although that quote goes a long way to giving direction, doesn't it? Also, could you lend me a little of your energy, please? ;)

P.S. Those PASTRIES!!!

Long list. I can appreciate it. Been doing that the past few months. Feels good - although still so much stuff.

Normally a simple, balanced life is what I aim for - work, rest and play. However, at the moment, not 100% well, rest is more necessary than work or even play!
