Countdown, Day 9: Candle Lighting

Today is the second Sunday of Advent, the day to light the second candle on the Advent wreath.
Hanukkah began last evening at sundown with a lighting of the Menorah to begin the Festival of Lights.

A candle in the window signals warmth and security waiting inside for Advent visitors.
It's also a symbol for "room in the inn" for Mary and Joseph, traveling from afar.

If you're in the habit of lighting prayer candles for loved ones in church,
now you can do it online at
Click, click and you'll be there...
 lighting a virtual candle.

hello Becky
Nice pictures you show.
Wish you a good second Sunday of Advent.
Hugs Hanne Bente
Ps. I'm not on Facebook - so I can not turn on some lights!

We do take "light" for granted, don't we? Lighting candles and building a fire reminds us of how far we've come, how important light is to our spirit, to our salvation, literally and metaphorically.

ah my becky,
i started back at the beginning before i left the web.
each advent day has been more enchanting than the last.
i love what you did in decor this year with the beauteous madonna in the mellowness of age. it looks very "london" doesn't it. and that it was made by an englishman... perfect!
and i didn't know about rosemary!
i learn something from each day and each day's post is a little feast for my eyes. thank you!

I'm not a big candle person any other time of the year but at Christmas I love to light them all over the place. Now that you can get them LED and not worry about fire it's perfect!
