Today's the Feast of St. Francis...

While you are proclaiming peace with your lips,
be careful to have it even more fully in your heart.
~~St. Francis of Assisi

One of our views while walking in Assisi, Italy, 2005

St. Francis~~mystic, confessor, and founder of the Franciscans~~
is revered and honored in his hometown of Assisi, Italy.
October 4 is his name day.
An eye-opening stop for walking tourists,
Assisi will greet you with festive flags, medieval arches, and generous gelatos.

That street in Italy looked fascinating. I've never been to Italy, but my camera would have loved it :-)

Thank you for this post marking the feast of St. Francis of Assisi -a Christ-like man and special to our family. Assisi is a special place, too. (And my husband is called Francesco).
A wise quote.

Those streets are great work-outs! Nobody had to go to gyms in my childhood in Italy. We played hard up and down these streets with alleys and stairs everywhere.

The photo is beautiful, Becky! I'm also impressed by the painting by Ribera, with all the patches on the robe.

I really dithered about that award...I hate choosing some and not others, and I also dislike putting tasks on others without their agreement. But I haven't ever taken a stand as an award-free blog, either...

Beautiful street---what wonderful balconies---must be cool being able to sit on one of those!
Loved the statue of him with the bunny and the bird (duck?). I have a precious momento of my mom's with a picture of St. Francis and an inscription on it. It rests always by my bed.
